Hindu funeral

Hinduism is one of the oldest living religions and takes many different forms. In Sweden there are today around 5 000 adherents, and in the world around 900 million, most of them in India.

What usually happens at the ceremony?

Adult Hindus are cremated rather than buried. After the cremation the ashes are scattered in the river Ganges or over other running water.

Hinduism is both a religion and a social system, since a person is born into a caste. How a person lives their life matters, as it affects rebirth.
