About E. Nilssons Begravningsbyrå

We have been in Småland for over 100 years. Today we have eight locations around Växjö, our own legal advisers in-house and a 24-hour line, every day. We are authorised by Sveriges Begravningsbyråers Förbund, the Swedish Funeral Directors Association.

What does our authorisation mean?

That an outside body checks that we keep our promises.

An authorised funeral director has to follow the association’s rules on price information, confidentiality, ethics, working methods and training. Today there are just over 400 authorised firms in Sweden, all privately owned, and all of them display the authorisation symbol clearly.

What is checked, and how often?

Every five years through a specific review. The requirements therefore apply not only on application but continuously.

What am I insured against?

All authorised firms are covered by liability insurance that applies to estate inventories and the distribution of estates. The pallbearers we engage are automatically covered by accident insurance through the association.

What happens if something goes wrong?

You can turn to the association’s complaints board, which examines the case independently of us.

The board is made up of consumer affairs experts, a representative from the association, two lawyers, an experienced funeral director and two representatives from Sweden’s largest pensioners’ organisations.

What else does an authorised firm do?

We help with tracing, and with the documents relating to insurance policies and deposits left by the person who has died. People rarely know what there is, and it is one of the things that takes the most time to work out on your own.
