Non-religious funeral
You shape a non-religious funeral entirely as you wish. It can include religious elements if you want it to, but it does not have to.
What usually happens at the ceremony?
There is no set order. You decide the content: music, poems, speeches and personal touches.
We can act as officiant, or it can be a relative, a colleague or someone else you trust. Several of our advisers are civil celebrants.
What is useful to know?
- The Church of Sweden is obliged to provide a suitable venue for all funerals, regardless of faith or denomination. Most often you are directed to a funeral chapel or a crematorium chapel.
- Nothing prevents the ceremony being held outdoors, in your own home or somewhere else, so long as it is practical to arrange.
- The ceremony can be held either before or after the cremation.
What do we help with?
We can conduct the ceremony ourselves if you want us to, or help whoever you have chosen to prepare it.
The content of the ceremony belongs to the family and the congregation. We make sure that everything around it is in place in time: collection and transport, day or night, coffin and urn, contact with the cemetery authority, the death notice and the online memorial, and all the paperwork for the authorities.
What does it cost?
The same price list applies whatever the tradition. See what a funeral costs, or call us and we will work out the figures for your situation.
Where can we read more?
Sveriges Begravningsbyråers Förbund, the Swedish Funeral Directors Association, describes this form of funeral at begravningar.se.
We arrange funerals according to several different traditions.
