Writing a will in Växjö
With a will you decide yourself what happens to what you leave behind. Without one, the Swedish Inheritance Code decides, and that does not always turn out as you intended. We write it together with you, at our office or at your home.
Who needs a will?
Above all anyone who is cohabiting, since cohabitants do not inherit from each other at all under Swedish law. It also applies if you have children from an earlier relationship, want a particular thing to go to a particular person, want the inheritance to be separate property, or have no heirs and want to choose the recipient yourself.
What formal requirements apply?
A will must be in writing, signed by you, and witnessed by two people at the same time. The witnesses must know that what they are witnessing is a will, but do not need to read the content. They must not be related to you or receive anything under the will themselves. This is exactly where homemade wills usually go wrong, and the mistake is found when it can no longer be put right.
Can you disinherit your children?
No. Direct heirs, that is children, always have a right to their statutory share, which is half of the share they would otherwise have received. That right cannot be written away. The rest, on the other hand, can be distributed freely, and you can control how and when the inheritance is paid out.
Where should the will be kept?
Somewhere it will actually be found. A will nobody knows about has no effect. Tell someone you trust where it is. When we are finished we will go through with you where it should be kept.
What does it cost?
The price depends on how extensive the will turns out to be. Call us and we will tell you what yours costs before we start. A first conversation costs nothing.
Who will help me?
Our legal adviser Rikard Löfgren, together with our legal assistant Johnny Ringeborn. You meet the same person throughout the case. See E. Nilssons Juridik, our legal help, for everything we assist with, or read about cohabitation agreements and prenuptial agreements.
