Roma
The Roma often adapt to the religion of the country they come to. Therefore the majority are Catholics or Orthodox Christians but other beliefs also occur. The family and relatives are very important and forms the basis of security in life. When a Rom passes away the relatives want to sit in wake up to three days after the death. The funeral then takes place as quickly as possible. Adult Roma must be buried. As family relations are important there are often a large number of people attending the funeral. The deceased is seen as part of the family relations even after death. Good to be aware of:
- Possibility to have a wake
- As a rule the deceased is dressed in their own clothes
- Many funeral guests
- Cremation only in exceptional cases
