Prepare a death notice
For many people the notice is how they first hear the news. It does not have to be perfect, and it does not have to be written today. We help you word it, choose a symbol and a verse, and make sure it reaches the right newspaper in time.
What needs to be in a death notice?
In practice four things: who has died, when, who the bereaved are, and when and where the funeral will be held. Everything else is optional. Many people add a verse, a symbol and a line about memorial donations.
What can we prepare at home?
Think about these things before we meet, and the rest goes quickly:
- The full name, and whether a nickname should be included.
- The date of birth and the date of death, and the place.
- Who should be listed as the bereaved, and in what order. This is what usually takes longest, so start there.
- Whether you want a verse or a line of text, and if so which one.
- A symbol, for example a cross, a dove, a tree or a flower.
- Whether you want to ask for a memorial donation to an organisation instead of flowers.
How do we find a verse and a symbol?
Feel free to browse here, at home and at your own pace. Note down the ones you like, and we will bring them along when we word the notice together. The verses are in Swedish.

Which newspaper, and when?
Most people choose Smålandsposten. A single column notice there costs from around 4 500 kr. The notice needs to be submitted a few days before the date you want it to appear, and we handle the contact with the newspaper. If it is to go into several newspapers we arrange that too.
Does the notice have to appear before the funeral?
No. Some families choose not to place a notice at all, and hold the funeral privately. Others place the notice afterwards. There is no right way, and nobody will judge your choice. See also our published death notices and the page about memorial donations.
